Reflectors are the most transit-sensitive Human Design type because EVERY centre is open and EVERY transit activation produces temporary definition. Where a Generator has a defined Sacral that holds steady through cosmic weather, a Reflector has no fixed centre and so the entire chart reshapes day by day as transits move through. This is the structural reason for the Reflector decision authority — the lunar cycle. The cycle is not just a 28-day waiting period; it is the formal sampling of every major transit configuration the Reflector will experience over a typical month. Reading transits as a Reflector is reading the rhythm of who-am-I-today across an inherently variable design.
How does every transit produce temporary definition for a Reflector?
When the Moon (or any transiting planet) crosses gates that complete a channel through the Reflector's chart, the Reflector temporarily experiences a defined centre — sometimes a defined Sacral (Generator-like sustained energy), sometimes a defined Heart (willpower availability), sometimes a defined Spleen (intuitive flashes), sometimes a defined Throat (uncharacteristic clarity in speech). Each temporary definition lasts hours to a few days at most, and then dissolves as the transit moves on. From the Reflector's perspective, this is what 'normal life' looks like: the felt experience of self genuinely changes day to day. Practitioners often describe waking up and 'taking a moment to figure out who I am today' before engaging with the world. This is not dissociation; it is the all-open-centre design correctly sampling the transit-defined version of self.
The lunar cycle as transit calendar
The Moon makes a complete orbit through the zodiac in ~28.4 days, passing through every gate position over the cycle. Each gate position produces a different transit-defining configuration in the Reflector's chart. Across the full cycle, the Reflector samples every possible "version of self" their chart can be temporarily configured into. This is why the Reflector decision authority is the lunar cycle — and the practice is essentially "wait until I have been every version of myself this chart can produce, and then check which version of the decision feels right consistently." Faster authorities (sacral, splenic, emotional-wave) work for defined-centre types because their core does not change; the Reflector's core IS the changing pattern, and the cycle is what makes the pattern legible. Outer-planet transits (Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, Pluto) extend this principle to multi-year cycles for the largest decisions.
Environmental amplification of transit signal
A subtler but equally important Reflector dynamic: the transit signal felt at any given moment is also AMPLIFIED by the surrounding community's transit experience. A Reflector spending the day in a community where everyone is feeling a particular transit intensely will sample that transit doubly — once through their own chart and once through the absorbed community field. A Reflector spending the day alone will sample the transit only through their own chart, which feels different. Over the lunar cycle, this means the Reflector's experience of the same transit varies based on where they are and who they are with. The mature Reflector practice is to deliberately curate the lunar cycle environments: time alone for clean transit reading, time with healthy community for amplified wisdom-reflection, and avoidance of toxic environments where transit weather amplifies into accumulated disappointment. The transit calendar and the environment calendar are the two variables, and the Reflector's practice is to align them deliberately.
