The October 2026 flying star chart does not start on October 1. It re-flies at the instant of Han Lu, 06:29 UTC on October 8, puts 9 in the centre, and holds until 09:52 UTC on November 7. Laid over the 2026 annual chart, it produces the pairings that matter this month: 8 and 9 together in the Southeast, 1 and 9 in the centre, the argumentative 2 and 3 in the West, the "crossed swords" 6 and 7 in the Southwest — and the monthly 5 moving into the North, a sector already carrying the Year Breaker and the Three Killings. This piece gives the full nine-sector table as our engine computes it, and the classical rule for each difficult sector.

The nine sectors for October 2026

This is the full board as our engine computes it for October 8 to November 7, 2026. "Engine reading" is the combination our Feng Shui engine names for the pair; "Standing in 2026" lists the year's fixed afflictions, which do not move month to month.

Two checks on this table that you can run yourself. The monthly grid is the annual grid with every number moved down by one, because the monthly centre, 9, is one below the annual centre, 1, on the circular count. And the chart genuinely changes at the term: our engine returns a monthly centre of 1 at 06:00 UTC on October 8 and 9 at 07:00 UTC, then 9 at 09:00 UTC on November 7 and 8 at 11:00 UTC.

The Southeast and the centre: the two good pairings

Southeast, annual 9 with monthly 8. In the current Period 9 of the Xuan Kong cycle (2024–2043), 9 is the ruling star, and 8 — the ruling star of the period that ended in 2024 — still counts as a wealth star. Our engine reads the two together as current and future prosperity, and it is the pairing of the month that practitioners would move a desk to use. The traditional way to strengthen it is Fire: brighter light and red accents.

Centre, annual 1 with monthly 9. Our engine reads this pair as future wealth: 9 is the ruling star now, and 1 is the star of the next period, which begins in 2044. The centre of a home is often a hallway or a living space rather than a room you sit in, so this pairing usually matters through how the middle of the house is kept: clear and lit.

The North again — and this time with the 5

In August we wrote about the North holding the best pairing on the board while also carrying two of the year's afflictions. October turns that around. The North keeps its annual 6, but the monthly star arriving there is 5, the 5 Yellow, the star classical Feng Shui treats most cautiously. It lands on a sector that carries Sui Po, the Year Breaker, and part of San Sha, the Three Killings, for all of 2026.

The annual 5 is in the South all year, and our engine flags it there. The monthly 5 is the month's own visitor, and classical practice tracks it as well: for October 8 to November 7 it is in the North.

The rule from August still resolves what to do, and it is worth repeating because it is the most misread rule in the system: flying stars govern use; annual afflictions govern disturbance. The North can be lived in normally. What the tradition asks is that it is not dug into — no knocking through walls, no drilling, no breaking floors, no starting a renovation on that side of the building — while the Year Breaker stands, and especially in a month when the 5 has arrived there too.

The West and the Southwest: the two argumentative pairs

West, annual 3 with monthly 2. Classical texts call this pairing the fighting bulls (斗牛煞): 3 is a Wood star associated with disputes, 2 an Earth star, and Wood pressing on Earth is read as friction — quarrels, gossip, arguments that go round in circles. The traditional answer is Fire, because Fire sits between the two in the productive cycle: Wood feeds Fire and Fire feeds Earth. So red accents and bright light, and no water features, which would feed the Wood.

Southwest, annual 7 with monthly 6. Two Metal stars together: the crossed swords (交剑煞), associated with conflict and sharp words. The traditional answer is Water, which drains Metal: blue or black accents, curved rather than pointed shapes, and nothing more made of metal in that corner.

The South and the Northwest: the year's standing stars

South, annual 5 with monthly 4. The annual 5 has sat in the South since February together with Tai Sui, the Grand Duke of the Horse year, and it stays until Li Chun 2027. The monthly 4 does not change its standing. The traditional remedy for the 5 is Metal — a six-rod metal wind chime or brass — and the traditional rule for Tai Sui is the same as for the Year Breaker: do not disturb that side of the building.

Northwest, annual 2 with monthly 1. The annual 2 is classically named the sickness star, and the Northwest also sits inside this year's Three Killings. The tradition's advice is to keep the sector quiet and add Metal, the element that drains the 2's Earth: brass, or six coins. The monthly 1 is a mild visitor and does not change that reading.

What to take from October

  1. The chart changes at a moment, not a date. The October board starts at 06:29 UTC on October 8. Before that instant, September's chart is still running.
  2. Read the pair, never the star. The North held the best pairing on the board in August and hosts the monthly 5 in October. Same sector, same annual star, a different month.
  3. Use it, don't dig it. The year's afflictions are about construction. They are not reasons to stop using a room.
  4. Your own layer sits underneath. The flying star board is the same for everyone; your personal directions come from your Kua number, which is stable for life.

A note on precision, since every number here is computed rather than copied from an almanac: our two independent implementations put Han Lu at 06:29:17 and 06:29:58 UTC and Li Dong at 09:52:05 and 09:52:33 UTC. Both boundaries are stated to the minute for that reason. You can see the live board for any date in the Flying Stars calculator, and the meaning of each star in our guides, starting with the 5 Yellow and the 9.

For reflection, education and entertainment. Feng Shui is a traditional placement practice, not a claim about outcomes.

Frequently asked questions

◆ 6 questions

When does the October 2026 flying star chart start?

At the solar term Han Lu, 06:29 UTC on October 8, 2026 (14:29 Beijing time) — not on October 1. Monthly flying star charts change at the twelve sectional solar terms, so the October chart runs from Han Lu until Li Dong at 09:52 UTC on November 7, 2026.

What is the centre star for October 2026?

The monthly centre star is 9, laid over the annual centre star 1 that holds for the whole 2026 Chinese year. The centre therefore carries 1 with 9, which our engine reads as a favourable pairing, and every other sector gets its own annual and monthly pair from the same two flights.

Where is the 5 Yellow in October 2026?

There are two. The annual 5 sits in the South for the whole year, together with Tai Sui. The monthly 5 sits in the North from October 8 to November 7, where it joins the annual 6 in a sector that already carries the Year Breaker and the Three Killings for 2026.

Which sector is strongest in October 2026?

The Southeast, where the annual 9 meets the monthly 8. In the current Period 9 of the Xuan Kong cycle, 9 is the ruling star and 8 the one just before it, and the pairing is read as current and future prosperity together. The centre, with 1 and 9, is the other favourable pairing of the month.

Which pairings are difficult in October 2026?

Two. In the West the annual 3 meets the monthly 2, the pairing classical texts call the fighting bulls and associate with quarrels and gossip. In the Southwest the annual 7 meets the monthly 6, the crossed swords, associated with conflict. Tradition answers the first with the Fire element and the second with Water.

Is Feng Shui a prediction?

No. Flying Star Feng Shui is a traditional placement practice that describes the quality attributed to each part of a building at a given time. This page reports what the classical system says about each sector; it is not a claim about outcomes.
