Applied to a shop, office or workshop, Xuan Kong Da Gua reads the building exactly as it reads a home: the hexagram its facing bearing lies in, the hexagram behind it, and whether the pair’s 卦運 is timely in the current 20-year period. What changes for a business is the practical side — the facing of a commercial unit is often less obvious, and a lease fixes the building for years, so the measurement and the period both deserve attention before signing.
What the reading says about a premises
The ring gives every building one pair. In Period 9 (2024–2044), which belongs to 下元, a pair whose 卦運 is 6, 7, 8 or 9 is timely and a pair whose 卦運 is 1, 2, 3 or 4 is not. That is the one judgement Xuan Kong Da Gua makes without looking at the site — landforms, water and roads are read by other methods. KAXANTA states the pair, their shared 卦運 and 卦氣, and the verdict; it does not score a building’s revenue prospects, and no consulted source ties a hexagram to a line of business.
Finding the facing of a commercial unit
A shop on a street faces the street it opens onto. An office inside a larger building takes the building’s facing — the direction its main entrance faces — not the direction of its windows. A corner unit with two frontages faces the side with the main public entrance. Take the bearing carefully and correct for magnetic declination: at 5.625° a hexagram, a unit whose frontage sits within a degree of a segment boundary cannot be read reliably from a phone compass.
Before signing a lease
Measure the facing, find the pair, and check three things. Is the pair timely now? Does the facing sit within one line (0.94°) of a hexagram boundary, or on a line between two palaces (大空亡) or two mountains (小空亡)? And how long is the lease: the half of the cycle flips at the Li Chun of 2044, when Period 1 opens in 上元, so a pair that is timely today with 卦運 6–9 becomes untimely then, and a pair with 卦運 1–4 becomes timely. For comparing two properties, the same three checks put them side by side.
